APPOINTMENTS

GATEWAY

The first step to consult with our physicians is to request an appointment. You may initiate the referral yourself. Referrals are not required to see our clinicians unless your insurance plan requires a referral.

The second step: Upon receipt of your insurance plan identification cards, we will attempt to verify your coverage and benefits to ensure you get the best benefit level from your plan.  We will also attempt to obtain an pre-authorization to treat you both in the clinic and for surgery, imaging or physiotherapy, if needed.

The third step: Once we’ve cleared your benefits and eligibility, we’ll offer you an appointment.  If we know you don’t need pre-authorization to see our clinicians, these steps may be bypassed to expedite setting your first appointment in our clinic, located at the Coral Desert Health Center.

Step four: Prior to your arrival, you’ll submit some information for clinician prior review so that we’re prepared for your visit with us.

CLINICAL
DECISIONS

For each orthopaedic problem, we have established clinical triage algorithms. An algorithm is a set of instructions for solving a problem or accomplishing a task. For example, to be able to peek at your bones and ligaments under your skin, the algorithm may include preliminary x-rays and/or MRI images, if you have not had images taken within the previous few months or weeks.  We may also review any medical records from previous clinicians that were involved in treating the same body part about which you are concerned or believe you may require surgery.

Patient engagement is critical.

We offer telehealth and in-person appointments for consultation. You are a partner in the clinical decision-making for every step of your care.

  • You may be seeking a one-time second opinion consultation, which is totally fine.
  • You may decide you’d like to change doctors. That too, if perfectly fine, as long as you are informed about your insurance benefits and coverage for our services. You are always welcome.
  • Additional diagnostic testing may be necessary. It would be our pleasure to arrange it outside our clinic. As a convenience, some diagnostic testing can be managed inside our clinic.
  • Together with our clinical team, you will decide if your next steps involve surgery or conservative management (e.g., injections or pain medication or physiotherapy) to get you back on the mend.
  • Once your clinical decision-making phase is concluded, your care will be assigned a customized clinical pathway, uniquely structured to meet your needs.

CARE
NAVIGATION

Each patient in our practice is assigned a Care Navigator and Clinical Case Manager within our practice. The manager divides the tasks among the team to ensure your needs are met timely and efficiently. This is a key component to the exceptional care you receive at Robotic Orthopaedic Institute at Coral Desert Health Center.

You are a team member in this process.

When you schedule an appointment to become our patient, your case is reviewed in advance of your arrival. This enables our team members to prepare to deliver our best and highest efforts for you.

Your clinical pathway is coordinated for you.

  • Medical travel arrangements: If you require travel to get to us for your surgery, our internal care navigator will help arrange flights, driving itineraries and routes, and hotel accommodation, ground transportation, admission to a post-surgical rehab facility, and even pet care, if needed.
  • Navigating the labyrinth: When you are scheduled for surgery, your care navigator and team members coordinate all your insurance authorizations, surgery scheduling, pre-operative labs and other diagnostic tests, home health nursing and home physical therapy, anesthesiologist, your consent forms, blood transfusion preferences, if needed, and other appointments outside our office. We’ll also coordinate your insurance form completion for time off work, if required. Just allow us sufficient time (10-14 days) to prepare the forms and return them to you.
  • Ancillary coordination: Care continuity extends to after your surgery as well, whether you require, outpatient physiotherapy, a follow up appointment in-person, by telehealth, or to return to your hometown where your local physician can coordinate your recovery.
